Weekend – stereo gear & starwars

Well, Saturday started off pretty well. Woke up, went to Hooters (wooo), went to Barnes & Noble, then ended it with a stop at Best Buy. That is of note because the Citadel Best Buy is moving from it’s current location to South Carefree & Powers. Which sucks, as then there will be no BB on the south side of town. Meh. While I was there, though, I bought the [L=http://starwars.com/episode-iv/trilogy_dvd.html]Starwars DVD Trilogy[/L] for the cool price of $45.99. Neato. So the next morning I decided that my Sunday-night viewing of Starwars would not be complete unless everything was as close to perfect as possible. I had plans to go to Pueblo for the chile festival (note the chilE, not chili. Not much food there, but lots of green peppers), which was a good time, in the afternoon, so I had to work fast. I strode into Best Buy just after they opened at 11:05am and with wild abandon purchased [L=http://www.klipsch.com/product/product.aspx?cid=55&section=specs]A wicked 12″, 440 watt Klipsch subwoofer[/L] – I love good bass. [L=http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1051826211873&type=product&ref=03&loc=01]A wicked (black) Sony 5-disc DVD player[/L] – I’m a Sony whore. Why in the hell would I purchase such ludicrously expensive electronics? Two reasons. 1) Starwars 2) Aforementioned moving Best Buy == huge sales! The woofer was $289 marked down from $499 and the DVD player was $129 from $159. WOOO. The DVD player is of great importance, as we have been having some issues with the XBox playing some DVDs. My home theater system is complete. TV, receiver, dvd player, speakers, woofer, everything. So James invited Emily & her roommate Ashleigh (sp?) over and we watched Starwars. The girls couldn’t handle the marathon (sissies) and petered out around 11:30pm, while Keen and I kept on going through the third movie until almost 2am. Yes, I admit I was dozing here and there through RotJ. Regardless, the woofer + DVD player + Dolby Digital 5.1/DTS is rock-my-socks awesome.

just got done watching Jedi myself. What did you think about the extra scene of celebration from Naboo, Tatooine, Coruscant and Cloud City? I’m still debating the insert of Hayden into the end scene, I mean, continuity is good, but I kind of feel that it’s blasphemy. I kinda like the rest of them though, especially the herd of Banthas crossing the desert. But Troy won’t buy me a Bantha. Not even a baby one.

Linux & Sex Kittens

Man, had a bunch of things piling up on my plate to post about, and am finally getting around to it. Things are going pretty well on my end, so I’ll put up some things I’ve seen recently along with blurb to jumpstart some discussion. Unfortunately, you’ll have to actually read the articles that I link to to get the background. If you don’t and you comment about them, I’ll slap you. Why do people hate RedHat? [L=http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,1592544,00.asp]http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,1592544,00.asp[/L] With that link, I’d like to say that I’ve had the opportunity to work on two separate, no, make that three, RedHat-owned Fedora Core installs. One is a webserver in Texas. I was installing some custom java webapp hoohaa on it, and although the Host, iPowerWeb, does their best to make a colo’d server ready to go, it wasn’t what I was looking for. Despite that, it was pretty easy, even pleasant to find standard SysV init scripts, all my normal utilities, everything ready to go. A few hours later, *poof* a very customized box. The other two options have both been on the same physical hardware – once running Fedora Core 2 x86 and once on the same OS, x86-64bit. Both were very straightforward and did exactly as I pleased. My only complaint with Fedora is RPMs. And it’s not just Fedora, it’s almost all major linux distros. RPMs are almost always binaries, which makes it a real PITA when I have to link apps to eachother while building them. I’m not a linux hacker, and maybe I should be using the $app.src.rpms, but I’ve found that to be an annoyance. So yea, I like linux. But is it as good as FreeBSD? Not yet ๐Ÿ˜‰ Sweaty Southern Sex Kittens OR How women could utilize femininity in a relationship [L=http://brandotalk.blogspot.com/2004/08/sweaty-southern-sex-kittens.html]http://brandotalk.blogspot.com/2004/08/sweaty-southern-sex-kittens.html[/L] You know, there are a lot of people out there who think that feminism is about destroying the male-dominated society, blah blah blah. That’s great. Yay for out with the old, in with the new. The unfortunate part of this plan is that males don’t like it when their women are psycho. The link above is sort of a guide on how women -could- use femininity to make their man happy, and in turn totally own him in every way. Before you all go totally apeshit about what a horrible masoginistic woman-hating testosterone filled peice of shit I am, keep in mind that every male DOES love southern women. Maybe it’s because they’re not busting our balls 24/7, or trying to push an agenda, but instead are trying to get the most out of the relationship by contributing a little bit in leiu of demanding 100% “equality.” I guess it boils down to women are women and men are men, and neither should try to be the other. But that’s just my opinion. Discuss.

2004-09-23 22:23:17 – nick
Redhat: Don’t give a fuck about what they do as a corporation, really. The distribution itself? It can blow me–but only because of rpms. I’d rather chew off my own penis than deal with rpm dependencies and such. The woman article: I’d have to second your standpoint. Can’t think of much to add at the moment.
2004-09-24 07:57:27 – Netheus
regardless of how that article states it, what you are sayingis that you want a woman to lie to you so that you feel better. On the other hand, we want you to lie to us to make us feel better too. But because so many people say that they want an honest partner, northern women tell the truth a bit more often, and we get called bitches who are all up in your ass 24/7. It’s a Catch-22.
2004-09-24 09:38:21 – Master Ha-reed
There is a difference between lying and being tactful. I think the article advocates the latter.
2004-09-24 09:49:30 – Master Ha-reed
And the people that try to claim that gender is some societal influence that is learned have to fight through quite a bit of biology, especially neurobiology. There have been plenty of studies that have shown what happens to boys with botched circumcisions that are brought up as girls: they reject their dolls, etc and want to play with what all the other boys are playing with.
2004-09-24 13:16:03 – Master Ha-reed
Hey Randal – does this mean that you ended up getting the colo from iPowerWeb? If so – is it decent? I seem to remember something about it being ridiculously cheap, so I’m suspicious.
2004-09-24 14:00:23 – rand0m
Actually, the colo is at ipowerweb, but it’s not mine. It’s some consulting work from remote. I also found out with great annoyance that upgrading libc is a really bad thing unless you’re 1) in front of the console and 2) doing it while recompiling world*. Damn linux and it’s dynamic linking for everything! Thank god that you can still build FBSD with statically-linked everything. *world is a BSD (linux too?) term for kernel + base + all apps
2004-09-24 14:05:04 – rand0m
Oh, right to answer your question. ipowerweb is a decent host. They’re support is lacking, and I don’t know if it’s just this server or what, but their bandwidth sucks. Like … 20-40KB/sec downloads instead of the 300+KB/sec I would like to see … I’m guessing it’s just what this client bought bandwidth wise. Also, their base install of redhat is really full featured, has everything most people would need to start web/email hosting, including the Plex control panel.

Don’t forget kiddies! [L=http://www.linuxisforbitches.com/]Linux is for Bitches![/L] Over the linux boxen I have been responsible for in the past I can attest that linux blows chunks. Its slow to deploy (imo) and is a pain the ass to manage its deps for packages. FreeBSD and other *BSDs do this way better. The best way I can think of at the moment to describe linux vs BSD is that Linux is grown and BSD is designed. I like my apps to be designed and not just chunked together like a poorly built website. There is a very distinct reason why Mac OS X is based on FreeBSD 5.x branch. Ohh and btw Win2k3 is a good OS too :). As for the girls. I like my girls to take care of me as much as I take care of them. I do not care for girls that ride my ass 24.7 althought it does keep me on my toes. For that I like my girls to know when I need to be on my toes and when I need to be on my back ;-). SOME southern women are great. But when I think of a nice southern gal I the image that tends to come to mind are civil-war era girls. Those in my mind are sweet loving girls. Hey randal, don’t forget to check [L=http://learn.arc.nasa.gov/worldwind/features.html]this[/L] out and thx for the cs tonight! :-p
2004-09-26 09:06:09 – Netheus
On a woman vs. woman point of view, Southern women are quick to come to hostilities, and can be hateful bitches. To other women. Their relations to men are very different because they usually have an agenda to push. You are being manipulated. And there is a difference between being lying and being tactful. Not much of a difference, and I hate being lied to or manipulated, so I really see no difference. And women enjoy sex just as much as men. It’s just that they have a different set of priorities. But damnit, I don’t want to smell the trash right after a good lay, so it’s getting taken out before te fucking commences.

Thought I’d drop a line and let ya’ll know I’m not dead. Some neato things are afoot, but dunno if they’re going anywhere. Keen’s in New York, already scooted away after having just returned from Vegas. Punk. Amazingly enough, Adrian from my highschool spanish class works at Mitre with Keen now. We went out all together and played pool & drank at Phantom … was a good time. Small world, eh? Update: Apparently Keen does not leave until Tuesday. Missing keen, little bitta inner turmoil, WorkNews

Well, it’s 12:38am and I’ve ran out of things to do, so I figured I’d update here. Not too much happening, but here’s the lowdown. Keen came back from Vegas the other day after a nearly four week stint of work & Defcon. It’s a little weird saying it, but I missed him :-/ I’m glad he’s back, even though I never see him due to wildly conflicting schedules – he’s already out of the house by the time I wake up, and I’m coming home a couple hours after he’s already hit the rack. Kinda sucks. People. I went out with Tore and Laura to Phantom Canyon the other night. That was a pretty good time. Laura seemed … better than usual. Dunno if it’s the lack of UCSU, but she just seemed a lot more pleasant. She looked healthier too. Weird. Tore … well shit, I saw him like 2 nights before that so there isn’t too much new there ;-). I went out with Sammi for lunch today and had a great time. Also, Mr. Mike Lee made a surprise appearance last night and we chilled @ the store for the evening. It was nice to see him around – he’s a bartender at Oscar’s and is doing well. My day job is being acquired very soon. Got into a semi-argument, or more correctly a ‘problem solving discussion,’ with the soon-to-be-owner-person about how 802.1q & 802.1p (VLANs & class-based QoS) would have issues on our network, and summarily what we need to do to fixify it. He’s so high energy that our 3 hour conversation wore me out for the day. He must take caffeine intravenously every morning. The store is still limping by during summer, but school starts on the 18th and things are looking up. I can’t wait for business to pick up again! We are switching from our costly T1 ($500+/mo for 1.544mbps up/down) to a wicked adelphia hookup – $149 for 4mbps/1mbps. That and a couple other trimmings are hopefully going to prime us for money-making. That’s all for me, getting ready to close.

EverLAN, Bday, Girls, Works, Misc

I’m getting tired of looking at the same bland page here at rand0m.org. And I’m even more tired of getting an unbelievable amount of communiques insisting that I put up “more content!” So here goes. Topics for today include EverLAN, my birthday, Girls (in general), Work, Work #2 and then maybe some other things. It’s pretty sad that I have to structure my posts so that I don’t lose focus and scrap the entire process resulting in weeks of no-content. EverLAN was super. It went off with nary a hitch and was super well attended. Setup started July 14th, event on th 16th, ended on the 18th, cleanup on the 19th. EGC was closed from the 15th until afternoon of the 19th. Basically, 500+ people brought their PCs to the Phil Long Expo Center up on the north side to enjoy LAN computer gaming, file swapping, meeting people and to participate in lucrative competitions — one to the tune of $10,000 for 1st place. There are a shitton of photos running around: [L=http://rand0m.org/gallery.php?gid=13]my gallery[/L], [L=http://www.everlan.net/modules.php?set_albumName=summer04&op=modload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_album.php]everlan.net galleries[/L]. Also, Team3D, one of the world’s most well known Counter-Strike teams, made a visit to the gaming center. They were a bunch of really classy guys, and there are some photos of [L=http://cos.everlan.com/gallery.php?gid=13]them here[/L]. Of other note is that Adelphia has an awesome network team — if you can get ahold of them. My 22nd birthday happened on the opening day of EverLAN. I did absolutely nothing. I got a card from my parents, and a card from my Oma in Salt Lake City, UT, and a nice package of things from Laura (beachball (?), stickynotepad (was super @ everlan), some chocolates). I didn’t even drink a beer. I think I got a call from Keen, but that seems fuzzy. All in all, probably the most worthless birthday I’ve ever had – business as usual – and I don’t even care. Wow. Girls. I got to see Sammi while she was here, but she is gone. I was hoping to catch her again before she made off to FarmLand, but I didn’t. Damn. I think Laura [L=http://www.livejournal.com/users/pinklaura/10427.html]hates me[/L]. Awww Shoot! I ran into Michelle … something … the hot chick from back in the day. She is still incredibly hot. There’s this woman on my floor named Zaheera (sp?). She’s doing some temp work for GlobeLink, a translation-services company. She is almost 22, has a bachelor’s degree in history (earned 1 year early), speaks 6 languages and is pursuing her masters in international finance. She’s not the most attractive girl in the world physically, but man, I want to have sex with her brain. She is incredible, but I feel wildly inadequate due to her overwhelming competence … so I talked to her twice, and might ask her to get a cup of joe tomorrow for lunch? The day job is doing well. My job is the same as always, as there is not too much for me to do in the way o fnew things … I think that will change soon. I determined (see below) that I need to make more money. Hopefully the $ situation changes soon, otherwise it will change soon — not going to continue limping by on sub-Wal-Mart-night-stocker pay. The store is doing not so good. Summer sucks and has hit us hard. Like, real hard. We have been considering changing locations to one more suburban, but have been fruitless in finding a good mixture of location, size, cost, mean income, population density, and more. Location is -everything-. Everything. Luckily PHS starts up again soon, so hopefully we won’t die. Shittikaka. I made a gallery-style thing for the photos. I don’t know if I mentioned that in an earlier post, but it’s there and it’s pretty neato. Keen is in Vegas for Defcon. I was totally planning on attending, and had saved as much as humanly possible, but alas am short. I had no idea that it’s painfully difficult for me to save $1000ish with my low-ass-wage job … even over 3 months. w0lfy, damn him, got notice on Tuesday that -his- employer is sending him to Defcon all expenses paid. With three days notice, eg $400+ in tickets, $600+ in hotel costs, not to mention per diem, pay, and more. I long for such a job. You have no idea. Defcon officially starts up tomorrow, and I am expecting Keen to take a shitton notes and even more photos. I am still at odds with Tore. Wait, no. I don’t care anymore. People are fallible, people can change. I think Tore is at odds with me. I don’t know, though, because I haven’t talked to him in forever. He went to Texas, despite his previous strong inclinations to not do so. I feel like I should apologize, but then I think about it for a second, and I don’t have to apologize for my opinion, no matter how bigoted or biased others may think it is. I believe Tore will continue to be offended for an indeterminable period of time — this, by the way, it very much non-traditional Tore behavior. I liked him, his attitudes and his thoughts a lot more before. Before what, I don’t know … just … before. He changed. Or maybe I changed. Don’t ask me.

wo0o00o0!! New content. I’ll alert the presses. I got a new job, but you already knew that. However, they are not sending me to defCon. Such a shame. Ohh well. I hope Brian has fun down there. — And I fully expect someone to bring me back some of those cool hacker magnets you have on your fridge. Randal, eventually you gotta broaden your girl horizons. No offense but watching the girls that work on your floor is kinda creepy. There isn’t any HS girls you can hit on? Tell them you have a car!! –joking. But hey I really wouldn’t worry about the girl thing. Eventually word gets out that this really sucessful business owner is single and the girls will flock. You wait and see. On other notes- I saw your gallery. Nifty. In .NET that would have taken a lot more lines of code imho. I am starting to dislike .NET as I am starting to professionally dabble in it. Its just another technology that is complex. Although if used correctly is extremly secure and powerful. Too bad it natively still relies on IIS. Hey I tried calling you on your 22nd. You didn’t answer. And you weren’t online. Well I got in trouble for speaking my mind about someone you know last night so I won’t comment on a few things of that nature. Although I admit I did it in the wrong spot. Tell Corey hi.

I’m not stalking her, nor am I creepy. I didn’t even know that she worked on the floor until this past Tuesday … and I ran into her in the copy room and just started talking to her. Why does everybody (meaning craig) instantly assume I’m stalking/obsessing/beingoverbearingpsychoguy a girl. Jesus.

Well, you guessed right. Chile huh? I hear they have good steak down there, and some mountains. That’s all that’s there, right? Do any of you remember Mrs. Crafts from Palmer? Maybe she didn’t teach IB, I don’t know. I saw her at a MacDonalds near Longmont today. It freaked me out, especially considering the drunken cry fit that got her fired a few years back….
2004-07-31 09:34:17 – jordan
was she the one who was dating Sawtelle? Chile: they also have lots of smog. And fish. And wine. Oh, and also Chileans.
2004-07-31 14:04:20 – Dice
No, she was datng Mr. Smith, a computer teacher, who was also with her at MacDonalds. Sawtell was dating Mrs. Pell. That kind of changed my perception of the man. I always envisioned him leaving Palmer to go to his one room basement apartment. In it was only a swinging lightbulb above a tattered desk, and he would slave the nights away working thorugh non-sense equations, caring only about Math, but Pell changed all that, oh well. And Jordan, I guess you know who Diso Nova is. Why is it that this person is so hateful, and could you have him/her explain his/her fear of the sport of wrestling? Said something about sweaty guys in tights hugging, rolling around the ground. I admit, that about sums it up, but unless you are a homophobe, what’s wrong with that? Heh.

Actually, I don’t know who Disco is. But I did get a pretty good laugh out of your be called a meathead. That was some pretty funny shit. And further, I would like to posit the theory s/he is latently homosexual (really, what ARE you compensating for, Dsco? There’s much more room to move around if you leave the closet). ONe thing that i forgot to mention that they have in CHile are the cafe con piernas (coffee with legs). These are coffee shops where you’re served by scantily clad women. They scantness in the cladding ranges from miniskirts to g-strings. In the g-string establishments, the women are standing on a slight elevation leaning on a bar just a little above their mid-thigh level. (You’re always standing when you visit these places.) This means that every time you go to grab your cup, you have to dodge their breasts. Or i guess you don’t have to, but I have the two times that I’ve gone. Laura: before you lay into me for having gone even two times, in my own defense, I’ve never gone alone and am kind of weirded out by the entire thing. Further, the first time I was taken, I didn’t even know what the hell was going on.

I hope this isn’t too charged a topic, but I’m kinda curious what the general reaction has been in the States to farenheit 9/11. any comments? I obviously haven’t seen it yet. Is opinion as polarized on it as i think it is? Also, the name calling. totally my bad. Sorry about that.
2004-08-03 10:13:33 – Netheus
Well, Farenheit 9-11 has gotten a lot of shit, and a lot of good press… you just have to know that when you go into the theater that this is a POV of Moore, and that he is trying to convey/ convince you of his stance, which I think he does okay/ cheaply. I read on the Fark that Castro showed it in the prime time on gov’t tv. Hunter S. Thompson has a new book coming out. W00T. New little grocery store opened on Tejon where Yamaha Music was. Media Paly sux ass. Don’t go there. Buy DVD’s only to open the packaging, alas, sans DVD. Argh. Realized I was darker than I thought the day before last. Damnable pessimism.

Yeah, I heard it wouldn’t be long. Oh well, I want to play now, so I’ll dual-boot at least until I’ve finished the game. It’s not too much different anyhow. It’s just gaim and firefox and a couple small changes. Foobar (which I really wish ran on linux) instead of xmms and a putty terminal instead of aterm with ssh to my remote system. I think I’m beginning to realize that I hate technology and I don’t give a fuck as long as it does whatever I need it to do. I also think I’m rambling. Done now.
2004-08-09 16:27:36 – pinky
A few comments: a.) Jordan, you can go to your coffee shops, it’s not like something I type on the internet is going to change that. However, if you truly feel uncomfortable, then why go? There’s this theory that the way to begin to eraddicate sexism/racism/homophobia/classism/etc. is to begin with your own actions and attitudes because they give others the choice to not go along with the mainstream. Because of this, I would not go into the coffee shop to start that change in the perception and sexualization (and probably exotification) of women. yeah. b.) Farenheit 9/11. Everyone kinda forgot about it once the DNC happened in Boston, but up to that point, it was creating a lot of discussion and whatnot. I liked it because it showed a lot of what the mainstream media doesn’t talk about (Bushes ties to Saudi Arabia, the reality of war and loss of a loved one, and the refusal of anyone from the senate to help all the disenfranchised people in florida and contest the election in 2000). It was biased, but people should probably expect that from Michael Moore. I, however, think that the movie did appeal to swing voters more than the right would like to admit.

Busy day, Sammi, SBT

Wow today was a busy day. To start with, I awoke well rested for the first time in forever. I had to go out to falcon in the early morning – left at 8am, but unfortunately got half way there and realized that the radio I had with me wasn’t configured. Came back, conf’d it, went out there, spent 2 hours on someone’s roof and then came back into town. Yay for installing / fixifying radios. I then went to lunch with Super Sammi at Phantom Canyon. Ordered the Rootbeer/BBQ Chicken, which was very melony and not at all what I was expecting, but eh. Anyways, lunch was great. Her trip to South Africa sounded kick-ass … I can’t wait to travel abroad ๐Ÿ™‚ Anyways, it was a very insightful lunch because Sammi is really smart. And insightful … and everything else good in the world. *sigh* So as I was coming back from Falcon I drove pretty close to Signs By Tomorrow and was thinking “wow, I haven’t heard from Paul in a while, I’ll have to give him a ring sometime” … sure enough, not 20 minutes after I got back to the office he calls me while in the middle of a computer crisis. I tell him I can swing by post-lunch, and I do, to find … Janelle there! Yay for unexpectedly meeting the ex-gf with no prep time / obligatory self-delusion time! I had a little trouble concentrating, but I did fix SBT’s problem in less than thirty minutes (their internal software support didn’t fix throughout several -days- (ego boost here)). I then split outta there as fast as I could to avoid any awkwardness w/ nell … and it’s just business, you know? (lame excuse filter here) Anyways, got back to the store and it’s been chill. Been a good day.

Neth I personally prefer the Sounblaster Live! series sound cards. I think the new ones are 5.1 if I’m not mistaken. I personally have an older 4 channel one and it sounds great hooked up to my 450W speakers. Hope that helps ๐Ÿ™‚
2004-07-07 00:27:54 – Netheus
actually, through the use of some helpy web site and shear fucking around, we used a speaker cord (shielded) and adapted it to a patch cord (shielded, and otherwise known as an amp cable), and stuck that into the mic pickup on the mixer to the tables that run through the reciever, and then into the speakers. Then I went in and changed the audio device setting so that it broadcast 5.1, instead of just to PC Speakers. Technically, I have 10.1 sound coming out of my speakers. I also have the digital only output going through a woofer with 4.1, a random speaker that I can hook into just about anything from the very first computer I ever owned, and the stereo match that goes along with that, and then the stereo has 5.1…. so I guess that is actually 11.1. Holy shiat. Now if I could just position them all properly…. mmmm….. sound stuff….

River rafting and more!

Keen, Paulie and I [L=http://rand0m.org/images/rafting070304]went river rafting[/L] on Saturday afternoon. It was a really good time … I was kind of thinking about backing out on Friday, but decided that what the hell, I’m going to go and have a good time. There were *TONS* of hot chicks around. It was just gratuitous :-). Paulie and I both leapt off the raft and went for swims, and after a much-too-long-for-comfort attempt to get me back in the raft (due to a loose lifejacket) everybody ended up back on shore, nice and dry. Except Keen, who wore cotton ๐Ÿ˜‰ We ate at a place called Pizza Madness and the food was incredible — definitely have to go back there next time I swing through Canon City. The Gorge, btw, is HUGE. I can’t explain how high the cavern walls get, nor how long the Royal Gorge Bridge is. It’s really all quite impressive. [L=http://rand0m.org/images/rafting070304]Photos Are Here[/L]. I went to Corey’s bday party on Thursday night, got like 3 hours of sleep. Then I worked Friday night and went to Falcon in the morning, got another 3 1/2 hours of sleep. Then I went rafting. Then I worked a lockin until 9am Sunday. I was a very tired monkey – luckily, I didn’t do shit on Sunday, and went on a nice lunch outting with my sister earlier this afternoon. Been a great weekend. James friend came over last night with her two hot-as-fuck roommates for the sole intent of getting drunk. Unfortunately for everybody involved, not only did the end up not getting drunk, but they left early. Why? One of the girls is a prude. Meh. Oh well, they were nice eye candy for a couple hours. Tore and I tangled on AIM. I think he’s a pompous obstinate blowhard who believes that the world owes him something, and gets an unbelievably large pleasure out of manipulating people / playing mind games with folks. Additionally, he is always right and there is no room for any opinion other than his own. I strongly disapprove of all of that — the world doesn’t owe anybody shit, no matter what college tells you, mind games are horrible things and only serve to -REALLY- piss off those of us who don’t play them, and thinking so highly of oneself as to not even consider others’ opinions is just plain awful. This does not work out with Mr. A-Type me. I am unsure of where this will lead. Sammi is back in town, scheduled lunch with her manana. Dunno how that’ll [L=http://rand0m.org/viewcomments.php?NewsID=431#4541]go.[/L]

Well maybe the Class IV rapid I went on was more of a bitch. However, the fact that we were going the day of the year when the water level was the highest might have something to do with it.

marylin motazedi

Marilyn Motazedi, the sister of a childhood friend, passed suddenly this weekend at the age of fourteen. My sincerest condolences go out to her frends and family I recall spending time at the Motazedi home, with Marylin always tagging along beside Eric and I. Her glowing smile, her bouncing curls, her chiming laugh. Her love for her parents, her tight hugs. The rivalry, the unending adoration for her brother. Fate’s hand among us, roused much too swiftly.

Randal, I’m terribly sorry to hear about Marilyn’s passing. I remember babysitting her a few times. I remember how darling she was as a toddler with the cutest little smile you could imagine. I remember that she would watch Disney movies for hours on end and that she watched "The Little Mermaid," so many times that it broke in the VCR. I can only hope that Dr. & Mrs. Motazedi can take comfort that their little girl is in a far better place, but I can only imagine their grief. 14 is much to young…

Just saw Farenheit 9/11. Unabashedly left, but he never said it was going to be fair. However, he backs up what he says about Bush with evidence. Unlike Bush saying, "The reason why I say there is a connection between Iraq and Al Qaeda is because there is a connection between Iraq and Alqaeda," and the people suppossed to take that as enough evidence, Micheal Moore has past Interviews, a happy paper trail, and a few emotional outburst interviews to back up what he says. I’m not saying to trust everything he says, but at least he presents evidence to support his point of view instead of just saying that you should believe him because he says.

Sunday BBQ and misc musings

We are having a Barbecue on Sunday around 2pm. Everybody is invited. BYObeer, if you have any ๐Ÿ™‚ Keen came home on Wednesday and brought along a copy of Dan Brown’s “Angels and Demons” which is about the Illuminati and their infiltration of the Masons. I did a bunch of reading as of late and man, the Illuminati are interesting. Also of great interest is the vast amount of Masonic symbols and rituals that are existant in the Mormon church. I am told that Brown’s next book will address exactly that. Surely an inflammatory author, but one that has definitely made me want to learn as much as I can about religious symbology and more importantly, the pedigree of religion & power.

just finished Hunter S. Thompson’s The Rum Diary. The book says that he started it when he was 22. It isn’t anywhere near as drug induced as his other books, or ramblings. Beautiful prose. You can really feel that good old boy sense to his characters, that man’s world thing that he was raised around, and lived most of his life in. Really a very good novel.

ya know, most packages of fortune cookies only have one fortune in them. It’s not that weird to get multiple cookies with the same one.

yeah, but the myth is that they are all different. In reality, they prolly have about 25 different fortunes and just mix them up and hope it doesn’t happen at the same table. It’s just improbable, that’s all.

I am going to the zoo in the next couple days. I will pet a giraffe and feed it nasty ass crackers. I will dip myself in a vat of SPF 45 repeatedly throughout the day. I will then waste money on overpriced crap food because it looks novel.

So I was at Denny’s last night talking to Dhea, and I found out about some more of our class mates: Julian Bigelow is making bank with an internship while chasing after a degree in Child Psychology, through Regis, who has also sent him to Ghana for the next 3 weeks. Bobby Purify is studying cultural anthropology, right now focusing on Architecture. Jamaal had a baby and got hitched, and Eric Trujillo has done something too, but we were talking more about all of the embarassing shit she knows about them. Like how she almost had Julian convinced he was gay when he was 14. Ha ha! Anyway…. Write something Randal. I’ll give ya a dollar!

So i go into chile today. Why do we export the worst fucking shit that we come up with? They have TGI FRiday´s here. TGI fucking Fridays. Makes me wanna kick someone in the groin. HARD. We´ve also exported ugly fucking buildings. On the way in from the airport i saw a bunch of houses that could have just of well have been in some shitty C Springs suburb. I realize that it´s better than living in a shack, but whydid we have to export Widefield? I wish prefab didn´t mean ´looks like a piece of crap that came steaming from the an asshole from which a two-by-four was recently removed.´ anyhow, fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, you´re cool, fuck you, i´m out.

Don’t you hate it when someone is taking the place of your boss, and they blame you for embarassing them because they fucked up, more importantly, embarassing you, in an attempt to make them look better in front of the customer? I fucking hate that. But the problem arises as I call them on it every time, and turn it around so they look like an ass. And I don’t do it purposely.. It just kind of happens. Someone says, "Why isn’t this done, you fucked up," in front of customers, and I reply, "because I don’t take speed, and I haven’t gotten to it yet because I was doing my job properly." and that shit eating grin leaves their face, and they tell you it was inappropriate later, and then you tell them that they were acting inappropriate, and they don’t like that, and try to go on like nothing happened. Argh.
